Speaking on the ‘In The Zone’ podcast, Glenn Hoddle expressed his thoughts on the upcoming EURO2024 tournament sceheduled to take place in Germany.
The former Tottenham player thinks England have a good chance at the tournament, and believes Phil Foden could be the special someone “that can make the difference.”
“I think England have that with Phil Foden – he’s that type of player, but we’ve got quite a few players who could end up being the main man in this tournament.”
However, Hoddle expects England to fall short in the semifinals against France, expressing that “France are my favourites [to win] because of the balance between the way they defend and the way they can attack.”

Hoddle also spoke of Eberechi Eze, who was called up to his first EUROs this summer after a successful campaign with Crystal Palace.
The former England manager believes Gareth Southgate made the right choice by calling him up, and recalls that he “saw Eberechi Eze when he was 17 or 18 at QPR.”
“I thought then that he glides on the ball and is very easy on the eye. If he was Spanish or if he was Italian, we’d all be saying: ‘Wow, what a player’.”
“I’m delighted he’s in the squad. I’m always in awe of a creative player that makes it look easy, which Eze does.”
