Dalić expresses that “I hope this was a bad day, a bad reaction” after a tough day in Berlin for Croatia

Croatia manager Zlatko Dalić spoke to the Media following his side’s 3-0 defeat to Spain on day two of EURO2024. The game was held in Berlin’s Olympiastadion, and it is safe to say that the fixture posed a difficult start for Croatia. Dalić reflected on a hard game against a tough opposition when expressing, “First, I want to congratulate Spain on their win. They deserved it.”

“It was difficult for the first 15 minutes, but after that, we managed to get our game. We had a period with the ball; we had possession and control over the ball.”

Dalić admitted his players gave Spain too much space during the game: “We weren’t aggressive enough; we were too far from the players, giving them a lot of space; when you give such good players that much space, you don’t get many opportunities.”

When asked what he wants out of the next two games, Dalić was realistic. “We know what we are up against; we have two difficult matches to pass the group. This was an example of bad, and we must see why it was bad.”

To the supporters, he said: “I don’t know how many Croatian supporters were here. I apologise for this bad show today; thank you for your great efforts and for giving us their support, but they’ve seen what has happened; my message to them is that I apologise.”

Croatia will now look at their next game against Albania this coming Wednesday at Volksparkstadion Hamburg, where they will be eagerly searching to return to winning ways.
