England were held to a 1-1 draw by an inspired Denmark side at the Deutsche Bank Park in Euro 2024’s Group C.
Harry Kane opened the scoring for the Three Lions before a wonderful long-range strike from Morten Hjulmand levelled things up. Denmark will undoubtedly be happier with the final result, with England looking dishevelled after going ahead.
Here are FromTheSpot’s player ratings from the match:
Denmark
Kasper Schmeichel – 6.5
Made a few big saves to keep Denmark in the match.
Joachin Andersen – 6.5
Good on the ball, as always. Was the best of Denmark’s centre-halves.
Andreas Christensen – 6
Christensen blended in against England, rarely putting a foot wrong, but also rarely doing anything to stand out.
Jannik Vestergaard – 5.5
The Leicester City man struggled to contain England’s attack throughout.
Joakim Mæhle – 7
Was heavily involved for Kasper Hjulmand’s side, both defending well and getting forward with purpose.
Morten Hjulmand – 7.5
Capitalised on a loose pass from Kane and fired the ball past Pickford to get his side back in the match.
Pierre-Emile Højbjerg – 8
Completely dominated the midfield for Denmark, and had multiple good opportunities of his own.
Victor Kristiansen – 5
Got caught sleeping by a marauding Kyle Walker for the opening goal of the evening.
Christian Eriksen – 7
Eriksen’s four key passes once again showed off his creative talent. Deserved a goal contribution to show for his efforts.
Jonas Wind – 6
Failed to have an impact on the match. Struggled against the dominant Marc Guéhi.
Rasmus Højlund – 5.5
The Manchester United man couldn’t get himself involved with play, and when he did get an opportunity, was sloppy with the ball at his feet.

A solid display in replacement of Kristiansen.

Christian Nørgaard – N/A
Andreas Skov Olsen – N/A
England

Didn’t lose his concentration during his side’s long spells of possession, and made a few comfortable saves.
Kyle Walker – 7
His intuition and blistering speed allowed him to create the opening goal.
John Stones – 6
Not the Manchester City man’s finest performance. Was overshadowed by his defensive counterparts.
Marc Guéhi – 8.5
Stepped up and replicated his matchday one performance. Defended superbly once again to prove his place in this star-studded England side. Made a big mistake towards the end, but recovered well.
Kieran Trippier – 6.5
Put in a decent defensive shift down Englanf left-hand side.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 5.5
This man is a right-back, not a central midfielder. Was sloppy on the ball at times, and subsequently got taken off early by Southgate.
Declan Rice – 7
Rice’s determined hard work is never not impressive. Wasn’t his best game, but his energy went a long way in the middle of the park.
Bukayo Saka – 6.5
Got himself into good positions down the right-hand side, but lacked a clinical edge.
Jude Bellingham – 6
Couldn’t involve himself the way he did in the opener against Serbia.
Phil Foden – 6.5
Similar to Saka, found himself with good opportunities but failed to capitalise. Was unlucky to strike the post from outside the box.
Harry Kane – 6.5
Took the opening goal well, cutely placing the ball into Schmeichel’s bottom-right corner, but gifted the ball to Hjulmand for the equaliser.

Was brought on to bring some directness to England’s attack, but couldn’t make any real impact.

Was poor by his standards; tried to make things happen, but failed to do so.
