Denmark “showed how we really play,” says Hjulmand after 1-1 draw with England

Kasper Hjulmand spoke to the media after Denmark’s 1-1 draw with England at in Frankfurt. De Rød-Hvide can be pleased with their result today as they go into the last group stage with a chance of advancing to the round-of-16, and Hjulmand reflected that he is happy with his side: “I can’t say we’re disappointed because we did well.”

“We had a good feeling about this game and believed we could win. The most important thing for me is that we play like we did today in the upcoming games.”

“We can win, we can lose, but playing like this, like we did today, is the most important thing.”

When asked about Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Hjulmand praised his impact on the game: “This is Pierre at his best. He’s involved. He fights. He sends signals to the players and the stadium.”

“We’ve seen this before with Pierre. When he reaches this level, he carries the whole team. He did fantastically, and he made an impact in this game.”

After the Slovenian game, Denmark were criticised for their performance, but Hjulmand thought differently: “I heard that we were not good at receiving criticism, and we can. After the Slovenian game, we were disappointed, but some parts of the game reminded us of today’s game.”

“I just think that today we showed how we play and express ourselves with quality, with passion, with the fire and as I said, we can win, we can lose, but this is how we want to play.”
