Nico Williams spoke to the media after Spain’s impressive 1-0 win over Italy at Arena Auf Schalke.
The victory saw La Roja advance to the round of 16 of Euro 2024, becoming the second team to do so after hosts Germany confirmed their knockout status earlier this matchday.
Williams was full of praise for his teammates on what was a very strong win, saying: “Things worked very well tonight and my teammates helped me a great deal in these 1v1 situations – that’s my forte.

The 21-year-old Athletic Bilbao star was proud of himself when asked about his display: “I think that’s my most complete performance with Spain, and I hope to kick on and keep helping the team as much as possible.
“When I lost the ball, he [Luis de la Fuente] did tell me to be careful to keep the ball better, and that is a weakness in my game when I try to play the ball in the field. I’m trying to improve that, but I’m delighted nonetheless.”
Williams won player of the match for his terrific performance and described it as one of the best feelings in the world: “Look, I’m very focused on the Euros, and I’m doing everything in my power to contribute to the head coach.”
“I’ve always dreamed of being involved at a level such as this, playing at the European Championship and winning player of the match. I’m delighted and I’m very pleased that people trust me as well.”
Spain’s final match of Group B sees them take on Albania in Düsseldorf on Monday, 24th June.
