Player Ratings: Csoboth’s last-minute goal seals Scotland’s fate

Hungary defeated Scotland 1-0 in Stuttgart in the most dramatic fashion. Kevin Csoboth’s 100th-minute goal was the hammer blow for Scotland, giving Hungary a chance to get to the round of 16.

Scotland

Angus Gunn – 6/10
Gunn made a couple of good saves throughout the game and was unlucky with the last-minute goal, as it was a good shot from Csoboth.

Jack Hendry – 5/10
Hendry was deployed into the back three and had a good game. However, in the last 10 minutes, the game got away from Scotland, and the defence collapsed.

Grant Hanley, 6/10
Hanley was at the heart of Scotland’s defence and was reliable throughout the game. He had Scotland’s best chance of the game in the match’s final minutes before Hungary’s last-minute winner.

Scott McKenna – 5/10
McKenna found it difficult to get involved in the game and didn’t make a big impact on the match.

Anthony Ralston, 5/10
Again, like the last match, Ralston could have been more influential in Scotland’s game tonight and found it difficult.

Billy Gilmour – 6/10
Gilmour was one of Scotland’s best players and brought the play forward whenever he was on the ball.

Callum McGregor – 5/10
The Celtic midfielder found the game challenging, unable to get involved in Scotland’s attack.

Andy Robertson – 7/10
The Liverpool fullback was Scotland’s man of the match before he came off. He regained possession two times, made four clearances, and was overall very good.

Scott McTominay – 6.5/10
McTominay has been one of Steve Clarke’s best players at the tournament and had a good game, but he couldn’t get involved as much as he would have wanted.

Che Adams – 5/10
Throughout the tournament, Adams had been very poor for Scotland and had found it difficult, and tonight was the same story. He tried to press Hungary’s defence and force an error but failed.

John McGinn – 7/10
McGinn powered his way through the match tonight and was one of Scotland’s most influential players. He tried to create chances but was unlucky throughout the match.

Péter Gulácsi – 6.5/10
Gulácsi didn’t have to do much tonight as Scotland didn’t have any shots on target, but when called upon, he did his job and didn’t concede.

Endre Botka – 6.5/10
Botka played in the back three tonight and had a good game. He brought the ball out when needed and helped Hungary keep a clean sheet.

Willi Orban – 5.5/10
Orban had the only clear-cut chance in the first half but hit the bar, and he was fortunate not to give a penalty away in the second half.

Márton Dárdai – 6.5/10
The defender helped Marco Rossi’s men to a clean sheet and prevented Scotland’s attack from having clear-cut chances.

Bendegúz Bolla – 6/10
Bolla was deployed on the right-hand side for Hungary tonight. He had a good game and was solid against Scotland’s attack, helping his team’s defence and attack.

András Schäfer – 7/10
Schäfer had a good game in the heart of Hungary’s team. He controlled the midfielder and ensured he covered the defence and created for the attack in a good performance.

Styles was good on the night but was one of Hungary’s less influential players.

Milos Kerkez – 6.5/10
The Bournemouth player was one of Hungary’s better players. He was stationed on the left-hand side of Hungary’s side tonight and performed well.

Roland Sallai – 8.5/10
Sallai was named man of the match as he set up Csoboth for the winning goal. He was also Hungary’s most influential player and was involved in most of Marco Rossi’s men’s best attacks of the night.

The Liverpool midfielder was Hungary’s best player. He created the most chances and helped his team to the win.

Barnabas Varga – 6/10
Varga had a good game before his unfortunate injury, which stopped the game for a brief moment.

Kevin Csoboth – 8.5/10
Notching the winning goal with what was all but the last kick of the game, Csoboth’s impact off the bench was critical in keeping Hungary’s hopes of round-of-16 qualification alive.
