Arsenal reach agreement for transfer target; player yet to complete medical

A lengthy transfer saga is reportedly nearing its conclusion as Arsenal have reached an agreement in principle to sign Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.

The 22-year-old enjoyed an impressive EURO2024 campaign with Italy that caught the eye of several leading clubs, including Juventus and Real Madrid, though the defender only wanted Arsenal.

Able to play at left-back or centre-back, the Bologna star could link up with Mikel Arteta’s Gunners during their preseason tour of the United States if the deal is completed in time.

Calafiori is yet to complete his Arsenal medical, which must take place before his long-term signing is publicly announced.

Switzerland’s FC Basel will benefit from a 50% sell-on clause that was included in his contract when he moved to Bologna last summer for £3.4m.
