League Cup groups revealed with major rivals to face off

The Women’s League Cup draw today has produced a definite ‘group of death’ for the 2024/25 campaign.

Nine Barclays Women’s Super League teams and eleven Women’s Championship sides have been drawn into five groups today, with both Group A and Group E containing three top-flight sides.

Group A, in the northern section of the draw, features newcomers Newcastle United (freshly promoted to the second division) as well as Liverpool, Everton, and Manchester United – meaning two extra Merseyside derbies and Liverpool-United clashes for fans to enjoy. Newcastle must not be counted out either after an impressive run to the third-division title – this group has already been earmarked as the obligatory ‘group of death’ for this year’s competition.

Down south, Group E will see Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace, and Aston Villa all vying for progression alongside Championship title challengers Charlton Athletic – another group that promises plenty of thrills. Though no group is an easy task, West Ham United have had the good fortune to be drawn with three sides in the tier below.

The group stage will begin on the 2nd/3rd October and conclude 11th/12th December – but there’s potential for a twist midway through, as Manchester City and holders Arsenal could enter the fray if they’re knocked out of the Champions League early. The quarterfinals will take place in late January, when Chelsea enter the competition, before the semi finals a fortnight later and the final on the weekend of 15th March.
