Oroz joins ex-Real Madrid teammate at Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the deadline day acquisition of Maite Oroz from Real Madrid, just 90 minutes before the transfer window slams shut in the Barclays Women’s Super League at 23:00 BST.

Oroz, aged 26, has penned a deal with the Lilywhites that will see her remain in North London until 2028, subject to international clearance and the approval of her work visa. She will wear the number 10 shirt.

The midfielder is the second player to swap the white shirt of Real Madrid for one of Tottenham Hotspur this summer, with Hayley Raso having made the move earlier this month.

Oroz was recently named as one of Real Madrid’s co-captains, having made 146 appearances for las Blancas. Her 2023/24 campaign was particularly impressive, scoring five times in 24 Liga F appearances as the club secured a second-place finish.

Having kickstarted her career at Osasuna, Oroz made the switch to Athletic Bilbao in 2014. She stayed in the Basque Country until 2020, when she penned for Real Madrid.

Oroz also boasts four goals in 15 senior appearances for Spain, forming part of the side that won the UEFA Women’s Nations League earlier this year.
