Southampton defender makes QPR loan switch

Southampton’s Ronnie Edwards has joined QPR on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 season, having joined the Saints at the start of the season.

After spending four years with Peterborough United, the 21-year-old centre-back opted to join the Premier League outfit for a reported £3m.

But game time has been limited for the youngster, who is relishing the chance to play for QPR – the side his dad supports.

“[Dad] said about bringing back old times for his generation of the family. I’ll be getting them tickets for every game,” Edwards told QPR.co.uk, expressing his desire to prove his worth and benefit from regular minutes in west London.

“I was used to playing regularly in the past, and I’ve missed that. Hopefully I can get that here,” he explained, accepting that “competition [for places] is great.”

Edwards added: “If there wasn’t competition, football would be easy and you’d play all the time. I just can’t wait to get started and hopefully get some minutes.”

The youngster has been capped for England at U19 and U20 level after making his EFL debut at just 17 years old, and he assured QPR fans: “I know about the division. It’s exciting, it’s another challenge, and I’m ready to get going.”

Edwards is fit and available to make his QPR debut as the side prepare to host Luton Town on January 6th.
