Liverpool have completed the loan signing of Alejandra Bernabé from Chelsea until the end of the 2024/25 season, the club confirmed on Friday.
The defender signed for the Blues in 2023, before being loaned out to Real Sociedad in Liga F. The 23-year-old made her first of two appearances for Chelsea in December, with a cameo appearance off the bench against Leicester City.
Speaking after completing her move to Merseyside, Bernabé said: “For me, it’s a pleasure to be here. I know that this is a big club and also I hear the love from outside about this big club, so it’s a pleasure to be coming here.”
“I’ve had a look around [the AXA Melwood Training Centre] and it’s so beautiful. I know it has a history and the amazing facilities they have and everything. I think it’s the perfect place,” she told the club’s official website, adding that “it’s just amazing and I can’t wait to get started.”
Bernabé isn’t the only Chelsea prospect to join Matt Beard’s Liverpool on loan this month, with Julia Bartel completing the move too – and Bernabé says that her fellow Spaniard has spoken highly of the club and the city.
“Julia is so happy here. She loves the city and has told me a lot of places where I can have a coffee and go for a walk. I’m so happy because it is so unexpected that we are here together, so now it’s like we have to make a lot of plans and get to know the city and do the tourist bits,” she joked.
On completing his third signing of the month, Matt Beard commented: “Alejandra is a very attacking-minded full-back, very aggressive. [She is] good on the ball, a good crosser of the ball.”
“She’ll create competition for Taylor [Hinds],” he added, “and what we tried to do in this window is create competition and depth in the group. It’ll make us better prepared for any injuries we pick up and tactically give us more flexibility and gives me more options.”
