Leeds United’s FA Cup journey came to an abrupt halt at Elland Road as Millwall executed a clinical 2-0 victory, progressing to the fifth round. A first-half strike from Femi Azeez and his composed second-half finish sealed the win for Alex Neil’s side, who outworked and outmanoeuvred the Championship leaders on their own turf.

Daniel Farke’s side dominated possession but struggled to break down a resolute Millwall defence, while the visitors absorbed pressure and pounced on their opportunities with ruthless efficiency.

The result extends Millwall’s impressive record in cup competitions, reinforcing their reputation as a team that thrives in high-stakes encounters.

As it happened

Millwall made their intentions clear early on, pressing high and testing Karl Darlow within the opening minutes. Leeds, looking to impose themselves, saw Wilfried Gnonto threaten down the left flank but found the visitors’ defence difficult to break down.

The breakthrough arrived in the 30th minute, when Azeez capitalized on space outside the box and curled a superb effort past Darlow, giving Millwall a crucial lead.

Leeds attempted to respond, with Joe Rothwell’s free kick forcing a solid save from Liam Roberts just before halftime, but the visitors remained composed and disciplined.

Early in the second half, Farke turned to his bench for solutions, but Leeds struggled to carve out clear chances. Millwall then struck again in the 55th minute, punishing the hosts on the counterattack, as Azeez finished clinically for his second goal of the match, effectively sealing the contest.

Despite Leeds’ efforts to rally, Millwall’s defence held firm. Rothwell and Junior Firpo both saw efforts blocked, while late substitutions failed to turn the tide. The visitors expertly managed the closing stages, frustrating Leeds and securing a deserved victory.

With their FA Cup hopes extinguished, Leeds United must now turn their focus back to the Championship, where they will look to regain momentum and push for promotion.
