Hansi Flick told reporters that his Barcelona side “did a great job” against Benfica on Tuesday to secure their progression to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
On an emotional night at the Estadi Olimpic Lluís Companys, a brace from Raphinha and a stunning effort from Lamine Yamal helped the Catalan side to a 3-1 victory on the night, adding to their 1-0 win from last week’s first leg.
“I’m really happy with the qualification,” Flick expressed in his post-match press conference, but the German added that “we could have scored a few goals more.”
Barça will face either LOSC Lille or Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, and Flick emphasised that “it’s important now that we only look at the quarter-finals.”
“We’ve got high expectations,” he reminded reporters, noting that “winning the Champions League is very complicated but I hope we’ll be able to do it.”
As for what is behind Barcelona’s success this season, Flick revealed: “We start with an idea and a positive mentality. Everyone plays their role and gives 100%. That’s the foundation of everything. The players that came on in the second half also gave their best, and that’s how we’ll win titles. But there’s a long way to go.”
