Spurs saw off AZ Alkmaar on Thursday evening and have qualified to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League after a 3-1 victory in North London.
Wilson Odobert scored a brace in the fixture, with James Maddison also finding the back of the net. Alkmaar had their moment too, when Peer Koopmeiners strike rifled past Vicario, but it wasn’t to be enough for the Dutch side.
In his post-match press conference, Postecoglou revealed that he is “super pleased” with Spurs’ performance, adding “I’m so happy for the players and I am proud of them.”
“It’s not easy, tonight was a big night for the club and we were already one-nil down.”
“It’s very easy to get anxious and nervous but I felt that we were in total control, we dominated the game and played in their half.”
“With European football, what you do know is home or away, they’re going to be tight games,” the Australian told reporters, before turning his attention to the upcoming quarter-final tie against Eintracht Frankfurt in April.
“There’s so much on the line, obviously a semi-final up for grabs. The good thing for us is it’s almost a month away, which allows us to just get some more legs and work up some of our guys to full fitness.”
“That time will be very valuable.”
