Enzo Maresca is hopeful that Romeo Lavia will return to full fitness “very soon”, he told reporters in his pre-match press conference as Chelsea prepare to face Legia Warsawa in the first leg of their UEFA Conference League tie on Thursday.
The Blues are the clear favourites to progress to the semi-finals, where they’d face either Djurgården or SK Rapid Wien.
Giving an update on injuries within his squad, Maresca revealed: “Hopefully we can get Romeo [Lavia] very soon. I don’t know if [he’ll be back] for the next game, but he looks quite good in terms of being back soon.”
Wesley Fofana, however, will be “out for the rest of the season” after undergoing hamstring surgery on Saturday.
Maresca affirmed that the club “are going to support them for sure because they are our players, because they are young, and because they are human beings. In a moment where they struggle for different reasons, we need to support them.”
There was more positive news on the fitness of Marc Guiu, with the Chelsea boss confirming that there is “good news” on the La Masia graduate’s return to the squad.
“From today he looks quite good, much better, and he can be back before the season finishes,” he explained.
