A 58-year-old man has been arrested by French police after attempting to use false documents to access the changing rooms and steal players’ underwear during Dijon’s match against Saint-Étienne in the French Prèmiere Ligue, according to French media.
Attempting to pose as a representative of the French Football Federation (FFF), the man is understood to have presented himself to the league’s delegate and tried to gain access to the changing rooms, under the pretext of anti-doping control.
As first reported by Bien Public, the man reportedly requested access to the clothing and underwear of two Dijon players so that ‘analysis’ could take place – but with league officials growing suspicious of his falsified documents and unusual request, the police were called.
It is also reported, according to Bien Public, that the man had been harassing one of the Dijon players on social media for more than a year.
The Saint-Étienne local, who is understood to have a clean criminal record with the exception of a past traffic offence, has reportedly denied that there is a perverse reason for his actions, and simply declared himself as a fan of the players. He will face trial on July 18 after the two players involved, and the FFF, registered a complaint.
