“There’s nothing to hold back for,” says Slegers as Arsenal chase deficit in UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final

Renée Slegers urged her Arsenal side to give it their all to overturn a one-goal deficit against Olympique Lyonnais.

Arsenal head to France this weekend to face Olympique Lyonnais in the second leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final tie, having fallen to a slender 1-2 defeat against les Fenottes in North London a week ago.

Kadidiatou Diani and Melchie Dumornay scored either side of Mariona Caldentey’s penalty, leaving the Gunners with work to do at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais when the deciding leg gets underway at 17:00 BST [18:00 CEST] on Sunday 27 April.

“We believe that we can expose them,” said Arsenal boss Renée Slegers in her pre-match press conference, “but we’re also very aware that there’s a lot of threat in Lyon and what they can create. We’re super humble for the task because they probably have a next level in them, but so do we.”

The former Dutch international continued: “There’s a balance of us being very humble and very aware of what we’re going to play against but then also a big belief because we think we can do something on Sunday. We know what the task is that’s ahead of us, we know the details we want to bring to the game and we’re going to give everything we can give in that game because there’s nothing to hold back for. We really look forward to the opportunity on Sunday.”
