Magpies eye vital points against high-flying Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth host Newcastle United at the Vitality Stadium in the Premier League

Newcastle United head to the Vitality Stadium on Sunday afternoon to face AFC Bournemouth, looking to build momentum after a narrow 1-0 win over Wolves in the Premier League and a 2-1 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League.

The Magpies sit 13th with five points and will hope to avoid a repeat of last season’s 4-1 loss against The Cherries. Eddie Howe’s side had a shaky start to the season, not winning any of their three opening fixtures in their Premier League campaign, which extended their winless streak to 11 games including the end of last season and pre-season.

However, not all looks bleak as Eddie Howe’s side will take encouragement from recent performances and the impact of summer signing Nick Woltemade, who scored against Wolves on his debut and looks set to play a key role in their push up the table.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, have made an impressive start. Andoni Iraola’s side are 5th with nine points, marking their best-ever opening to a Premier League season. In-form players such as Antoine Semenyo, Ben Doak, and Justin Kluivert will look to continue their strong run and test Newcastle’s resilience on the south coast.

The Cherries remain undefeated in their last five meetings with Newcastle United, in which two were wins, and three were draws.
