PREVIEW: Brighton test awaits as Arsenal chase another Carabao Cup glory

Arsenal host Brighton in the Carabao Cup as they look to continue their fine form.

Arsenal prepare to face Brighton at the Emirates Stadium in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

The Gunners dispatched Port Vale 2–0 in the previous round and remain perfect in the Champions League, while also sitting top of the Premier League table.

Mikel Arteta’s side have won nine of their last ten matches in all competitions, heading into the tie after a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Crystal Palace.

Arsenal have not lifted the League Cup since 1993, when goals from Paul Merson and Steve Morrow secured a 2–1 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Wembley. Arteta rotated heavily against Port Vale and is expected to make further changes for this midweek fixture.

Brighton arrive in North London hoping to reach the quarter-finals for the first time in their history. They reached the fourth round in emphatic fashion, recording back-to-back 6–0 wins against Oxford United and Barnsley.

Four of those goals were scored by Diago Gómez, the first player to net four away goals in a League Cup match since Julio Baptista achieved that feat for Arsenal at Liverpool in 2007.

The Seagulls currently sit 13th in the Premier League after a 4–2 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford. They won 3–1 on their last visit to the Emirates in the Carabao Cup in November 2022 and also claimed a 1–1 draw in the league last season.

Historically, Arsenal have the upper hand in this fixture with 17 wins from 25 meetings in all competitions, compared to Brighton’s eight, with seven draws.

Brighton remain without several key players for the trip, including James Milner, Kaoru Mitoma, Joël Veltman and Brajan Gruda. Solly March, Adam Webster and Jack Hinshelwood also remain sidelined.

The match will be broadcast live on the Sky Sports+ app and DAZN in the UK, with a kick-off time of 19:45 [GMT].
