Chelsea duo to miss the rest of the season

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s upcoming fixture against Brentford, Frank Lampard has confirmed that Reece James and Mason Mount will both be sidelined for the remainder of the Premier League season through their respective injuries.

A hamstring injury is to blame for Reece James’ absence. The right-back featured against Real Madrid on Tuesday, but Lampard commented that he “had a hamstring injury in the midweek game” but “got through it, but then had a scan and he’s out.”

It’s a huge blow for the Blues, who find themselves sat in eleventh place in the Premier League table with seven games left to play. Safety should be all but secured for the Stamford Bridge side, but mathematically the worst could still happen as they’re just 11 points clear of the drop zone.

Mason Mount could “make the last match, but that’s unlikely” – as the midfielder is set to undergo minor surgery on a pelvic injury that predates Lampard’s tenure. Frank Lampard added that there would be a “four-week recovery” to follow.
