Tottenham Hotspur 3–0 Slavia Prague: Simons and Kudus shine on emotional Son tribute

Xavi Simons shined again as Spurs crusied to a 3-0 win against Slavia Prague.

Tottenham secured a 3–0 win over Slavia Prague at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, on a night marked by Heung-Min Son’s emotional return to the club for a proper farewell.

An early own goal gave the home side a narrow lead at the break, but they pulled away in the second half. Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons both converted penalties to seal all three points and round off a comfortable performance.

As it happened

Tottenham almost took the lead inside the first minute when Wilson Odobert found Richardson inside the box. His low effort looked destined for the net, but Jindřich Staněk produced an outrageous shoulder save to deny the Brazilian, leaving the striker stunned that he hadn’t scored.

The game opened up quickly after that. Richardson and Kudus both had promising chances for Spurs, while Lukáš Provod tested the hosts with a sharp counterattack in what was a lively first 15 minutes.

Prague then began to grow into the game and carved out a couple of opportunities of its own. Still, Guglielmo Vicario was alert, making two strong stops to prevent the visitors from grabbing an opener.

Spurs steadied themselves and found the breakthrough in the 26th minute. An inswinging corner caused chaos in the middle of the box, and David Zima inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, handing the North London side a deserved lead.

The visitors looked brighter after conceding, pushing forward and creating a flurry of half-chances, but they couldn’t fashion anything clear-cut.

Tottenham closed out the half in control, taking their 1–0 lead into the interval as they searched for back-to-back wins in all competitions.

Three minutes into the second half, Spurs doubled their advantage. Kudus calmly converted from the spot after Pedro Porro was brought down inside the Prague box, delivering a hammer blow to Jindřich Trpišovský’s side.

Substitutes Mathys Tel and Pape Sarr both came close to extending Tottenham’s lead, but Staněk held firm, producing two excellent saves to keep his side in the contest.

Prague pushed for a way back into the game, but a second penalty for Spurs sealed their fate. Simons stepped up and slotted it home to claim his second goal for the club and wrap up a convincing win, lifting Tottenham to ninth in the Champions League group phase.

Slavia Prague, meanwhile, remain winless in this year’s competition as their search for a first Champions League victory continues.
