Having played three Women’s Super League fixtures at the Emirates Stadium over the course of the 2022/23 season, Arsenal Women have confirmed that they will play five league matches at their main stadium.
The Gunners set the league attendance record in September, with over 53,000 tickets sold for their league clash against local rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Since then, they’ve also faced Manchester United and Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium – selling more than 40,000 tickets for each fixture.
Jonas Eidevall’s side have certainly boasted some impressive attendances when playing at the Emirates Stadium, as 60,063 fans packed into the ground for the second leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League semifinal against VfL Wolfsburg.
It’s wonderful to see the support for the team at Emirates Stadium, Meadow Park and on the road week in, week out. This latest announcement ensures that as many supporters as possible can enjoy the matchday experience with us, as we continue to support the sustainable growth of women’s football.
Arsenal CEO Vinai Venkatesham, speaking to Arsenal.com
While an abundance of injuries have seen Arsenal slip away from the title race, the possibility of qualifying for next season’s Champions League remains. Should that occur, the club have stated that all games from the group stage onwards will also be held at the Emirates Stadium.
Currently, most of Arsenal’s WSL games are held at Meadow Park – the home of Boreham Wood FC. There are concerns that the Gunners have outgrown the ground’s 4,500 capacity though, and they have certainly proven that the demand is there to make opening the Emirates Stadium viable.
Meadow Park is over a 40-minute drive from the Emirates Stadium, and a lack of reliable public transport makes it difficult to reach for fans commuting from London. If the Gunners were given the opportunity to make the Emirates Stadium their permanent home, attendances would surely warrant the additional expenses.
While fixtures for next season have not yet been confirmed, the club have stated that a package deal will be available for fans wishing to purchase tickets for the five games to be held at the Emirates Stadium.
