Manchester United kickstart their 2023/24 UEFA Champions League campaign on Wednesday with a trip to Bayern Munich’s famed Allianz Arena. With the Red Devils having failed to really set the Premier League alight thus far this season, Erik Ten Hag’s side may struggle to record a positive result in Germany.
Bayern Munich have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the Bundesliga season, though they were held to a 2-2 draw by Bayer Leverkusen on Friday. It’s certainly a stark contrast to the picture at Old Trafford, with United having suffered defeat in three of their five league encounters thus far – including a chaotic injury-time loss to Arsenal on Saturday.
Erik Ten Hag has made three changes to his starting eleven as a result of that defeat. André Onana retains his place between the sticks, with one alteration made to the back four as Sergio Reguilon replaces Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The Spaniard will start alongside Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martínez and Victor Lindelöf.
Christian Eriksen and Casemiro remain in the starting eleven, though Antony has been replaced by Facundo Pellistri as a result of the ongoing legal battle surrounding the Brazilian. The young Uruguayan comes into a promising attacking lineup, alongside Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes – while Rasmus Højlund replaces Anthony Martial as the focal point of the attacking output.
As for Bayern Munich, Thomas Tuchel has made just one change to his starting eleven. Thomas Müller has been replaced by Jamal Musiala, in what would appear to be a tactical alteration.
