Buoyed by a strong summer transfer window, Mel Phillips’ Brighton would travel to Everton on Sunday to commence the 2023/24 Barclays Women’s Super League season. The Toffees strengthened well over the summer too though, with Martina Piemonte the notable addition to Brian Sorensen’s side.

EVE: Ramsey; Stenevik, Finnigan, Björn; Veje, Galli, Olesen, Hope; Bennison; Piemonte, Sørensen

BHA: Baggaley; Kullberg, Thorisdóttir, Bergsvand; Pattinson, Bremer, Olme, Losada, Robinson; Lee, Terland

It took just three minutes for the Seagulls to take the lead on Merseyside, with Elisabeth Terland heading over the line after Katie Robinson’s shot had taken a deflection off the crossbar.

It would be a busy afternoon for the Brighton forward, with the Norwegian putting herself on course for a hat-trick just eleven minutes later – latching onto a clever threaded ball through the Everton defence from Katie Robinson and slotting past Ramsey to double the lead.

The Toffees would ultimately have to settle for a loss though, with Megan Finnigan’s second-half strike not enough to warrant a share of the points.

Brighton will host West Ham United next Sunday, while Everton travel to Leicester City’s King Power Stadium.
