Sheffield United 2-1 Wolves: Norwood salvages win with 90+10’ penalty

Still searching for their first win of the 2023/24 Premier League season, Sheffield United welcomed Wolves to Bramall Lane on Saturday – with the visitors looking to return to winning ways after a draw against Newcastle United.

SHU: Foderingham; Robinson, Trusty, Baldock; Thomas, Norwood, Souza, Bogle; Hamer, Archer; Brewster

WOL: Sá; Toti, Dawson, Kilman, Semedo; Aït-Nouri, Doyle, Lemina, Hwang; Cunha, Kalajdzic

A chaotic second half at Bramall Lane saw Cameron Archer open the scoring in superb fashion with less than twenty minutes of regulation time remaining, after a mazy solo run culminated in his shot finding the back of the net via a deflection off the crossbar.

But when substuitute Jean-Ricner Bellegarde levelled in the 89th minute, Wolves looked sure to have secured a point against the run of play – with the Blades having been the dominant force since the half-time break.

Yet there would be one final twist in the tenth minute of stoppage time, with George Baldock felled inside the box by Fabio Silva. Up stepped Oli Norwood after a VAR check, dispatching a thunderous effort to seal Sheffield United’s first victory of the season.

The Blades now turn their attention to next weekend’s trip to Brighton – where they’ll face the Seagulls just days after Roberto de Zerbi’s side face AFC Ajax in Amsterdam. As for Wolves, they’ll return to Molineux to face Ange Postecoglou’s high-flying Tottenham Hotspur.
