Brighton 2-1 Brentford: Hinshelwood nets first senior goal to see off Thomas Frank’s Bees

Seeking to return to winning ways after a weekend defeat at Stamford Bridge, Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton welcomed a strong Brentford side to the South Coast on Wednesday.

BHA: Steele; Groß, Igor, van Hecke, Hinshelwood; Gilmour, Baleba; Mitoma, Buonanotte, Adingra; Pedro

BRE: Flekken; Ghoddos, Mee, Pinnock, Roerslev; Baptiste, Janet, Yarmoliuk, Onyeka; Maupay, Mbuemo

Against the run of play, it was the visitors that took a surprise lead just before the half-hour mark at the AMEX – with Bryan Mbuemo slotting a composed effort home from the penalty spot after Vitaly Janelt was fouled by Jan Paul van Hecke inside the area.

Their lead would be short-lived though, and when Pascal Groß sent a thunderous effort crashing past Mark Flekken four minutes later, the Seagulls never looked back.

Losing Mbuemo to a leg injury wouldn’t have helped the Bees cause though – but perhaps on a wondrous day for Jack Hinshelwood, the outcome of the match was written in the stars. At just eighteen years of age, the teenager headed home from a Pascal Groß cross to hand Brighton a much needed three points.

The Seagulls remain on the South Coast on Saturday as they welcome Burnley to the AMEX, while Brentford’s Premier League journey sees them venture to Bramall Lane.
