Liverpool 4-1 Luton Town: Hosts come from behind at Anfield against spirited Hatters

Having held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at Kenilworth Road earlier this season, Luton Town would be looking to build upon the positives of their slender defeat against Manchester United on Sunday as they headed to Anfield in midweek.

A wasteful Liverpool side were punished for their lack of clinical finishing in front of goal throughout the first half, with Jürgen Klopp’s side trailing Luton Town as they headed into the interval after Chiedozie Ogbene’s early header beat Caoimhin Kelleher.

Jürgen Klopp’s side emerged as a rejuvenated outfit following the break, and two goals in two minutes from Virgil van Dijk and then Cody Gakpo saw the Reds seize the lead before the hour mark had passed.

Luis Díaz would finally make amends for a plethora of squandered efforts throughout the first half, as he danced into the box after 71 minutes before slotting home past Thomas Kaminski at the near post – albeit with his ninth shot of the evening.

Harvey Elliott would wrap up the goalscoring rout in the dying stages of the match, capitalising on a loose ball to bag Liverpool’s fourth goal as they move four points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Liverpool have now won three consecutive matches after they lost to Arsenal at Emirates Stadium last month, and Jürgen Klopp’s men will feel confident of extending that run of great form when they face Chelsea under the Wembley Arch on Sunday.
