Spain 2-0 France: La Roja crowned as inaugural UEFA Women’s Nations League winners

Having already sealed progression to the 2024 Olympics with their semifinal victory over the Netherlands on Friday, Spain eagerly awaited France’s visit in the first-ever final of the UEFA Women’s Nations League.

La Roja set a new attendance record as they welcomed France to Seville’s Estadio la Cartuja on Wednesday, with 32,567 fans flooding through the turnstiles to witness Spain attempt to claim their second trophy in just over six months.

The opening goal in this showpiece final came after 32 minutes, as Aitana Bonmatí found the back of the net from close range – and Mariona Caldentey netted the second goal to put the game to bed shortly after the break.

La Roja were never really threatened by France though, with les Bleues failing to record a solitary shot on target over the course of ninety minutes. Spain now await to find out who they will face in EURO2025 qualifying, with the draw set to take place next Tuesday.
