Crystal Palace 1-1 Luton Town: Hatters leave it late to salvage all-important point at Selhurst Park

Having slipped back into the relegation zone in recent weeks, Rob Edwards’ Luton Town would be keen to close the gap to just a point with a victory at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon.

CRY: Johnstone; Richards, Andersen, Ward; Mitchell, Lerma, Wharton, Muñoz; Ese, Mateta, Ayew

LUT: Kaminski; Osho, Mengi, Burke; Doughty, Barkley, Clark, Kaboré; Chong, Ogden; Morris

The Hatters hopes of closing that aforementioned gap were quickly dashed by Crystal Palace though, with the hosts taking the lead after just 11 minutes. A defensive miscommunication between Thomas Kaminski and Gabriel Osho allowed Daniel Muñoz to pounce, feeding Jean-Philippe Mateta who duly dispatched home with a neat flicked finish.

But Crystal Palace would be made to pay for not making the most of their numerous chances throughout the match, with Odsonne Édouard notably striking the crossbar in the closing stages of the match.

Luton Town have made it rather clear this season that they will not go down without a fight – and Cauley Woodrow’s 96th-minute equaliser only emphasised that point. Latching onto an Andros Townsend cross, the second-half substitute sparked euphoric celebrations in the away end as he nodded past Sam Johnstone to clinch a valuable point.

Crystal Palace are now out of action until they face Nottingham Forest on March 30, while Luton Town have a busy week ahead of them – travelling to Bournemouth in midweek before hosting Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
