Eddie Howe: Seven-goal thriller ‘was a brilliant advert for the Premier League’

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe piled on the praise for substitute Harvey Barnes in his post-match press conference on Saturday, after the winger netted twice from the bench to secure a 4-3 win over West Ham United.

Barnes’ start to life on Tyneside has been clouded by a foot injury, but Howe insisted that ‘the quality is undoubtedly there and he scored two brilliant goals.’

‘It gives us renewed confidence – and hope,’ insisted the Magpies boss. ‘We still feel we have an opportunity to make something of our season. If we’d lost it would have been difficult to do that but, when you’re chasing a game you want chaos and we definitely had that.’

Newcastle United currently occupy eighth place in the Premier League, having closed the gap to West Ham to just a solitary point. Howe expressed how pleased he was with his side’s performance, explaining post-match that ‘it was a brilliant advert for the Premier League.’

‘At 3-1 down, it looked a really difficult point in our season but the players remained calm. They’re incredible professionals and that’s an incredible win for us.’
