West Ham edged a point closer to safety in the Barclays Women’s Super League on Sunday, as they held Brighton & Hove Albion to a goalless stalemate at Chigwell Construction Stadium.

Clean sheets have become a rarity for both sides throughout the season, but uninspiring performances in front of goal ensured that the points would be shared.

West Ham are now seven points clear of Bristol City, while Brighton move above Leicester City to claim eighth in the league standings.

As it happened

Sunday’s clash in Dagenham will likely be regarded as one of the most boring league fixtures of the season. That’s if anybody can remember it by the time the season concludes in May.

Elisabeth Terland blew a great chance to open the scoring in the first half, and Riko Ueki couldn’t direct a headed effort past Sophie Baggaley as the match wore on.

Baggaley was called upon more than her counterpart though, denying Emma Snerle, Honoka Hayashi and Anouk Denton throughout the course of the afternoon – while the Seagulls registered just two shots on goal.

The lineups

WHU: Arnold; Zadorsky, Tysiak, Shimizu; Smith, Snerle, Hayashi, Denton; Asseyi, Harries; Ueki

BHA: Baggaley; Pattinson, Carabalí, Bergsvand, Li; Olme, Losada, Haley; Sarri, Terland, Robinson
