Manchester United 2-2 Tottenham: Le Tissier clinches late draw in FA Cup dress rehearsal

Manchester United left it late to secure a share of the spoils at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday, with Maya Le Tissier nodding home in stoppage time to rescue a draw against Tottenham Hotspur.

The defender penned a new four-year contract with the club earlier in the week, and rose highest to restore parity as the two sides now look forward to their next meeting under the Wembley arch on May 12.

As it happened

Sunday’s clash at Leigh Sports Village was billed by many as a dress rehearsal for next month’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup final, in which a new name will be engraved onto the trophy.

Tottenham Hotspur will be without the prodigious Grace Clinton for that clash due to her ineligibility to face Manchester United, and the youngster was also absent from the squad on Sunday.

Manchester United leapt into the lead after less than fifteen minutes, nodding home from a deep Gemma Evans free-kick – but Spurs would soon restore parity, with Beth England credited for the leveller although it wasn’t clear if she actually made contact with Drew Spence’s initial shot.

Jess Naz, having netted against Leicester City last weekend at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, fired the Lilywhites into the lead just two minutes later – forcing a fierce strike past Mary Earps after cutting inside from her usual spot on the flanks.

Robert Vilahamn’s side looked destined to clinch all three points and record a statement victory ahead of the upcoming showpiece final, but Maya Le Tissier had other ideas and nodded home inside stoppage time to force a draw at Leigh Sports Village.
