Bayern Munich 2-2 Real Madrid: Vinicius Jr capitalises on Kim Min-jae mistakes in Munich

Two errors from Bayern Munich’s Kim Min-jae allowed Vinicius Jr to net a brace for Real Madrid on Tuesday night, ensuring los Blancos head back to the Santiago Bernabéu on level pegging ahead of next week’s UEFA Champions League semifinal second leg.

The South Korean defender was outpaced by the winger for the first goal, but a bright start to the second half saw Bayern Munich seize the lead. Another mistake from Kim inside the last ten minutes at the Allianz granted Carlo Ancelotti’s a lifeline, with Vinicius Jr doubling his tally from the penalty spot.

As it happened

Tuesday’s first leg was certainly a match that Kim Min-jae will be in no rush to relive.

With less than thirty minutes on the clock at the Allianz Arena, the defender was utterly outpaced by Vinicius Jr – the Brazilian going on to slot an effort past Manuel Neuer to open the scoring and hand his Real Madrid side the lead, despite Bayern having enjoyed a stronger start to the evening.

Thomas Tuchel’s side fought their way back into contention in the second half, with Leroy Sané restoring parity in the 53rd minute before Harry Kane slotted home from the penalty spot after Lucas Vazquez tripped Jamal Musiala inside the area.

But Carlo Ancelotti’s side would be gifted an opportunity of their own from twelve yards out, after Kim’s needless pull of Rodyrgo’s shirt inside the final ten minutes allowed Vinicius Jr to dispatch convincingly past Neuer.

A 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena sets up a winner-takes-all clash in Madrid next week, with a berth in the final at Wembley Stadium on June 1 at stake.
