Speaking after his Liverpool side ended Chelsea’s hopes of silverware by recording a 4-3 win at Prenton Park on Wednesday, Matt Beard joked that the end-to-end nature of the match was ‘not good for my heart, that’s for sure!’
‘It was a great game,’ he expressed post-match, adding that ‘we’re fighting for fourth spot, Chelsea are fighting for the title. We knew they were a little bit vulnerable after the way the last month has been for them.’
‘When you get in front and then get pegged back against a team like Chelsea, to keep going and keep scoring was a great testament to the character of the group.’

‘Whenever we put them [Chelsea] under pressure, they couldn’t play out and were giving us the ball. When we allowed them to play, we caused our own problems. We need to be a little bit more on the front foot. Even when we were getting in front and we were dropping off, we still need to do the same things. We’re just inviting pressure. But we’ve showed great character tonight and I think we deserved the three points over the course of the game.’
