Andoni Iraola accuses Arsenal star of ‘trying to find the contact’ after controversial penalty

Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola was left furious after controversial penalty decisions shaped the outcome of their clash with Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.

The Cherries fell to a 3-0 defeat in N5, with Bukayo Saka opening the scoring from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time after Kai Havertz was felled by goalkeeper Mark Travers.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Andoni slammed the use of VAR and suggested ‘I don’t think the game should have gone the way it has with the penalty decisions.’

‘Havertz is the one trying to find the contact,’ he begrudged. ‘He is not going to the ball to score a goal. If we give a penalty because of this then, as a coach, I have to say [to my players] try to do it next time… also try to find the contact… try to leave the leg there.’

‘If you are the ones in the VAR, they say it’s not a penalty, but probably they are thinking ‘there is contact so I cannot overturn it’.’
