Sonia Bompastor has claimed that she ‘trusts’ those in charge of the Women’s Super League, amidst reports that relegation could be removed from the competition.
Her unbeaten Chelsea side are set to travel to the Broadfield Stadium on Sunday 2nd March to face Brighton & Hove Albion, who sit fifth in the table.
“I think the league is trying to make it interesting for everyone, I think that is the main point for now but I will read the article later,” Bompastor told reporters on Friday, after news broke in The Guardian that the WPLL may consider scrapping relegation from the top flight of women’s football.
“It’s a good thing for them to be looking at some ideas to help the growth of the game and the people investing in women’s football.”
“I trust them, I think we have good people in the league and we can make some decisions.”
“We are competitors, and when you think about the competition it is good to have relegations and a system, I think it is cultural.”

“In a positive way, I was really surprised, but I want to thank my players because they are the ones who are helping me look good on the pitch.”
“I am really happy with the mental side of our performance, we are a really competitive team and in every game we show how much we trust our quality.”
As for the upcoming fixture against Brighton, Bompastor hinted: “I will have a clear idea of my squad later today.”
“Naomi Girma has practiced really well these past two weeks, she should be in the squad for Sunday. Erin [Cuthbert] is still recovering, I will have a clear idea tonight whether she is able to be in the squad or not.”
The 44-year-old suggested that the match “will be a tough game for us – every team wants to beat Chelsea.”
“They’ve had two weeks to prepare for the game and if you reflect on the previous game against them, I think it was a difficult game for us.”
“They have a lot of quality individuals, so we are expecting a tough game.”
