Tottenham suffered their 18th Premier League defeat of the season on Monday night, losing 2-1 to Nottingham Forest at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The result leaves Ange Postecoglou’s side sitting 16th in the table, though the manager insisted his team had done enough to win the game.

“It’s another game we have lost where we shouldn’t lose, and it’s been a big part of our season in that we are just making things difficult for ourselves in key moments, just a little bit of concentration,” said the Spurs coach.

“Giving away poor goals. It’s a shame because our football was outstanding, and we dominated the game. Even with the two goals we conceded, I still feel like we deserved to win the game.”

Only Osvaldo Ardiles, with 19 defeats in the 1993-94 season, has lost more Premier League games in a single campaign as Spurs manager than Postecoglou. Despite this, he remains confident in his ability to make the necessary changes to turn things around.

“It’s another loss and another unacceptable loss. For us, it’s just been a season where at times, even with the challenges we have had and we have had challenges today have to make changes to the team, but it’s really frustrating because our football was so good. We have lost another game.”

“I don’t need to say anything to the fans. The fans are disappointed and angry, as we are as well. It’s too many losses, I know that. I don’t need to tell the fans anything,” admitted the 59-year-old.

Tottenham travel to Liverpool next weekend, with the Merseyside club needing a win to clinch the Premier League title. Postecoglou says he’s excited by the challenge and believes it’s the kind of test his side should embrace.

“Another good test. Look, if we play like we did today but keep our concentration levels where they should be, then we can give them a game. We still need to rectify a couple of things.”

Spurs sit 16th in the Premier League, with a Europa League triumph their last chance to play European football next season.
