Bayern sack Nagelsmann; Tuchel favourite to take the job

Bayern Munich have sacked their head coach, Julian Nagelsmann. Having previously managed 1899 Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig, the German joined Bayern Munich at the end of the 2020-21 season on a five-year deal.

Since his arrival at the Allianz Arena, the club have won the DFB-Supercup and the Bundesliga – and they remain second in the league this season, trailing Borussia Dortmund by just one point. The side recently eliminated PSG from the Champions League, and are set to face Manchester City in the next few weeks.

Thomas Tuchel, who has previously managed PSG and Chelsea, is favourite to replace Nagelsmann. It certainly seems a strange decision, especially given the fact that Bayern Munich paid €25m to buy out his RB Leipzig contract less than two years ago. Nagelsmann has shown he is certainly capable of winning silverware at the highest level, so surely it will not be long before we see him take the top job at another European heavyweight.
