Kanté completes Al-Ittihad move

Al-Ittihad have now made two statement signings in just a matter of days, as N’Golo Kanté will join Karim Benzema in Saudi Arabia next season. The French midfielder has been linked with a move to the Gulf for some time now, and has put pen to paper on a deal that will see him earn a reported £85m annually.

It is believed that Kanté completed his medical in London, ahead of signing a two-year contract that includes an option to extend for a further year. Kanté was an instrumental part of Leicester City’s title-winning side in 2015/16, making 40 appearances for the Foxes after signing from Caen. Having signed for Chelsea ahead of the 2016/17 season, the defensive midfielder has gone on to make 269 appearances for the Stamford Bridge side – ultimately leaving this summer on a free transfer.

The 2022/23 season was blighted by injuries for the Frenchman though, who made just nine appearances for Chelsea. Kanté was forced to miss out on the FIFA World Cup as he recovered from a serious hamstring injury, but hopes remain that he’ll be able to return to form in Saudi Arabia alongside Karim Benzema.
