The Republic of Ireland were set to play their final friendly ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup on Friday, meeting Colombia behind closed doors. After just twenty minutes though, the fixture was abandoned as an overly-physical challenge on Ireland’s Denise O’Sullivan left the midfielder requiring hospital treatment.
It is understood that the referee had already dished out two yellow cards before this match-ending challenge on O’Sullivan, who was treated on the pitch before being taken to hospital. She was accompanied by Angela Keneally as the remainder of the team held an impromptu training session.
Vera Pauw is expected to offer an update on O’Sullivan’s condition tomorrow.
The behind-closed-doors game between the Ireland Women’s National Team and Colombia on Friday evening was ended after 20 minutes of play
The game, which was held in Meakin Park, Brisbane, became overly physical and it was decided, following consultation with the match officials, to end the game.
The Ireland team then underwent a full training session to continue preparations for their opening game in FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, against Australia in Sydney on July 20.
