Werner offers ‘warning’ to Nkunku ahead of Chelsea move

Timo Werner had a tumultuous experience in West London, following his transfer to Chelsea for £47.5m. The German forward could never quite make a consistent impact at the top of the pitch, but he is remembered fondly by the Blues fans, as his work-rate never faltered even when the goals were hard to come by.

Werner was eventually re-sold to the club he was purchased from by Chelsea, in a cut-price deal last summer. One of the players that the new ownership at Stamford Bridge have lined up to fill the space in the squad that the German’s departure created is his RB Leipzig team-mate – Christopher Nkunku.

The Frenchman is in line to complete a £53 million switch to Chelsea in the summer – once his release clause becomes active – and Werner has offered some advice for the forward, stating how he will need to cope with the increased mental pressure of playing for the Blues.

When asked by BILD whether he had any advice for his team-mate, having made the exact same transfer in 2020, the striker noted that the increased pressure and scrutiny of playing for Chelsea will be something Nkunku will have to cope with, should his move be confirmed.

‘Everyone has to make their own experiences,’ Werner said, ‘I can tell him about positive and negative experiences should he change.’

‘At a club like this, you don’t play like you do at RB Leipzig because there’s more competition – not just on a sporting level, but also on a different level, mentally… you have to deal with that and everyone has to find their own way.’

Chelsea fans – how do you rate the move, and what do you think of Werner’s comments?
