Arsenal closing in on Jorginho deal

Arsenal are set to complete the signing of Chelsea’s Italian midfielder Jorginho – with the player set to join Mikel Arteta’s side on a deal until the end of the 2023/24 season. The Gunners are now without Mohamed Elneny, who has been ruled out with a long-term knee injury – and with the severity of Thomas Partey’s injury still unknown, Arsenal are in dire need of midfield reinforcements.

The Gunners had shown interest in Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, with the Ecuadorian central midfielder posting an appreciation post on his social media that indicated he was on his way out of the AMEX – but Roberto De Zerbi has since stated that Caicedo will not be leaving in this transfer window.

With Caicedo off the cards, Arsenal turned to London rivals Chelsea – specifically 31-year-old Jorginho. The Italian midfielder certainly knows how to win trophies, and could play a vital role in Arsenal’s push for the Premier League title. Jorginho won the Coppa Italia and the Supercopa in 2014, before winning the Europa League, Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup with Chelsea. On the international stage, he won the EUROs with Italy – a tournament that saw him named as UEFA’s Male Player of the Year, while also finishing third in the Ballon d’Or rankings.
