Enzo Fernández looks to be a step closer to finalising his highly-anticipated move to Chelsea, with officials from the London club in Portugal to prepare a medical exam for the midfielder. The 22-year-old is expected to break the British record transfer fee, with the move rumoured to cost Chelsea in excess of £105m.
Fernández was cast into centre stage at the World Cup, with his excellent performances propelling Argentina to their third title in Qatar. Despite interest from Liverpool, Chelsea have always been in pole position to sign the midfielder – though few would have anticipated the club leaving it so late to get the deal done.
Crucially, the medical is taking place in Lisbon – meaning Chelsea needn’t worry about the time implications of flying the player to Stamford Bridge.
