Bayern Munich have loaned Marcel Sabitzer to Manchester United for the remainder of the season. The 28-year-old Austrian international has failed to cement his place in Bayern’s midfield, and while United are reported to have preferred a permanent move, the German side are insistent on a loan.
United were not expected to have been active on Deadline Day, but the long-term injury sustained by Christian Eriksen has forced the club into action. Early signs of interest in Youri Tielemans were dismissed quickly, with Ten Hag’s side instead opting to make a move for Sabitzer.
Sabitzer has spent less than two seasons at the Allianz Arena, having signed from RB Leipzig in August 2021. Since that move, he has won the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal with Bayern.
Marcel Sabitzer will be incredibly valuable to Erik Ten Hag, as he is able to play anywhere within the midfield – and even as a shadow striker. The player thrives in a more attacking role, but is more than capable of performing his defensive duties when called upon. United were not able to secure an option-to-buy clause in the deal.
